The idiom originates from the concept of a shot at a target from a great distance, therefore difficult to make.   Example:"You could try to find that mysterious man. It's a long shot, but you could start surfing the internet." To go broke If you go broke, you experience a financial collapse. You'll lose most or all of your money. Example:"Our company is going to go broke anytime unless you stop spending money foolishly." Start from scratch The meaning of this expression is to start doing something over from the beginning.  The root of the expression comes from races in which the scratch line was the starting point and wouldn't offer any advantage to a

  • #028 How to use the word BEAR

In today's episode: I'm gonna talk about the word bear. Next, through a mini-history lesson, you'll practice vocabulary, and above all, you'll improve your spoken English. Very well. Let's get started! The word bear is often used as a noun when we're referring to a large furry animal that likes eating honey. J To bear is a verb with several meanings: A few of its meanings are to hold, to support, to exhibit, to stand, or to give birth to. • #026 Start Running or Jogging in English Speaking Practice

    14/11/2017 Duração: 14min

Hi! I’m Georgiana. Thanks for joining me for another episode of the Speak English Now podcast.   In today's episode: I'm gonna talk about running or jogging. Next, through a mini-story lesson, you'll practice vocabulary, and above all, you'll improve your spoken English. Very well. Let's get started! How to Start Running I know it's tempting to just go out and run as fast as you can for as long as you can. However, keep in mind that if you want to run longer, and feel stronger, you'll need to be very patient. Experts recommend adding one minute of running for every four minutes of walking and gradually increasing your running time so that, eventually, you'll be running for twice the amount of time you spend walking. Your main goal is to get fit without getting hurt. Going way too fast, before your body's ready, is one of the most common causes of injuries. You can stay injury-free by gradually building up the time you spend walking and running, increasing the time by no more than 10 percent from week to week.

We know it's important, but how can you be more positive, and most importantly, how can you maintain that attitude? What you need is a change of mindset. And you can achieve that, by changing your strategy. For instance, get off social media and exercise more. I'm not saying you should run a marathon. But make sure you walk every day, even if it's just a little bit. Read self-help books in English.  There are many self-help books out there, so do your research. However, I can recommend Unlimited Power, by Tony Robbins. Anyway. We all know that being positive helps us achieve amazing t

    31/10/2017 Duração: 13min

Hi, I am Georgiana, your English teacher and founder of SpeakEnglishPodcast.com. My mission is to help you to speak English fluently. Before we get started, go to my website SpeakEnglishPodcast.com to get the transcript. It’s free! Ok. Let’s start! Prepositions are short words (on, in, to, of) that usually stand in front of nouns, pronouns, or a group of nouns. They show direction, time, place, location, or introduce an object. We commonly use prepositions to show a relationship in space or time or a logical relationship between two or more people, places, or things. But today, we will focus on time prepositions. I don’t recommend memorizing the examples since that method doesn’t work. It’s always best to learn in context by listening repeatedly. Ok. Let’s start learning some time prepositions in English. We use ON before the days of the week:

  • #023 English Fluency – Mistakes when you speak English

    24/10/2017 Duração: 10min

I’m Georgiana, founder of SpeakEnglishPodcast.com. My mission is to help YOU to speak English fluently. Today I will talk about fluency and how it is related to the possible mistakes that occur when we speak. Yes. Sometimes we can make mistakes!  Next, we will practice grammar with a funny point of view story. You just have to listen and observe how the different grammar points change. Very good! I have decided to talk about a topic that I think is very significant for the language student. First of all, let’s see what fluency means.  When a person can speak fluently, they can speak more or less without hesitation, without pausing and thinking about how to say something. Occasionally we can take a short pause to think, but this is not usual.  We experience near-perfect fluency when we speak our mother tongue. If you pay attention to when you speak, you will see that you do not think about which words to use. You just have an idea of what you are going to say, and you say it. When you are learning a language,
