3 Strikes, You're Out #48: Kershaw Groundhog Day with Sara Sanchez
16/10/2020 Duração: 47minI love Clayton Kershaw. He's the best pitcher of this generation and a pure joy to watch. But...it's October. Which means that Kershaw is distressingly...ordinary. On this episode, Sara Sanchez (Cuppa Cubbie Blue) joins me to ponder that if an entire month could be Kryptonite, October is just that for the three-time Cy Young winner. To mix superhero metaphors (and universes), it's like that moment in Spider Man 3 where Spidey loses his web slinging skills and faceplants hard onto the street. Actually, scratch that. Kershaw in October is like Spider Man 3. Period. We then pay tribute to the incredibly fun Atlanta Braves of Ronald Acuña, Ozzie Albies and Marcel Ozuna. As well as the immensely fun Tampa Bay Rays of...um...that guy! There he is! And his friend too! Also: the Houston Astros are participating. 3 Strikes, You're Out #47: Please God, Not the Astros with Adam Sokol
09/10/2020 Duração: 46minThe Houston Astros are like 2020. We're all just trying to survive until they're done. But they JUST WON'T GO AWAY. And now they're here to ruin the 2020 postseason by embarking on some kind of weird revenge fantasy against the rest of baseball for...watching as they cheated their way to a championship and then not punishing them at all? It's unclear. Today, comedian and friend of the pod Adam Sokol is back to give the Astros the roasting they deserve. Carlos Correa has turned out to be a tool, Dusty Baker's enabling all of this, and the whole thing just makes you want to dunk the American League playoffs in a giant vat of hand sanitizer. Fortunately, there's some genuine fun happening elsewhere in baseball, thanks to non-fraudulent greatness from players like Fernando Tatís Jr, Ronald Acuña, and Cody Bellinger. So we make sure to talk about the other three Division Series too. And we make a bold prediction about tonight's ALDS Game 5 that somehow results in us picking both the Yankees and Rays. So get bent,

3 Strikes, You're Out #46: Contract the Marlins with Kevin McCaffrey
02/10/2020 Duração: 36minAs you can hopefully tell from listening over the past year, this podcast is mostly about celebrating your baseball team. I've had guests from across the MLB fan spectrum on and I always enjoy hearing what makes rooting for their team fun. However, there are two exceptions. The Cardinals, obviously. The podcast has to be a minimum level of standards, after all. And the other team that inspires nothing but bile is the Miami neé Florida neé Jeffrey Loria's beloved Marlins. Today, I'm again joined by friend of the pod Kevin McCaffrey (Cubs Brawl: The Away Games Podcast) to go off on the abomination from The Sunshine State. And for once, I'm not talking about Ron DeSantis. The Marlins are what would happen if DeSantis could clone himself nine times. We do a deep dive into Marlins loathsomeness: from their terrible gimmicky history to victimizing other far better fanbases to despicable ownership to horrific 1990s colors. (Teal? Really?!) And above all else...they handed it to the Cubs in Game One. Because, as Kevi

3 Strikes, You're Out #45: WOKE in Cincinnati with Mark Chalifoux
25/09/2020 Duração: 47minI didn't think I was going to do a Cincinnati Reds episode this year. For most of 2020, the Reds seemed to be spinning their wheels. They finally put together a top notch pitching staff but their hitters steadfastly refused to approach competence. It looked to be another long season--even though it was only 60 games. But lo and behold! Comedian and Queen City native Mark Chalifoux (The Dad) is stopping by to talk Redlegs baseball! As the late Fred Willard once asked, "Hey, wha happa?" Well, suddenly in mid-September, it was like Reds hitters looked up at the clouds and saw the face of Mufasa (voiced by Ted Kluszewski) commanding "Remember who you are." From that point forward, it was as if their offensive philosophy could be summed up as "Oh right...I AM Joey Votto!" And Joey Votto is one of the best things you can be as a baseball player. In this episode, we pay tribute to Votto's awesomeness in many ways: The greatest hitter of this generation. A secret stand-up comedy fan. A Canadian national treasure. And
