3 Strikes, You're Out #65: The Saga of Bernie Brewer with John Egan
05/03/2021 Duração: 47minThe Milwaukee Brewers have a unique strategy for contending in 2021: playing in the National League Central. An entire division made out of "So you're saying there's a chance..." Brewers fan and friend of the pod John Egan (Wisconsin Sports Heroics) returns and he's completely on board with the Crew this year. With the return of Lorenzo Cain and anticipated bounce backs from Christian Yelich and Keston Hiura, John thinks they'll be able to score *checks notes* multiple runs per game on some days. We also discuss Milwaukee's hellacious bullpen led by Devin Williams, one of the most exciting young pitchers and most admirable people in all of MLB. But I'm burying the lede here. The real scoop in this episode is: Bernie Brewer is based on a real guy! You mean to tell me that a dude wearing lederhosen who slides into a giant beer stein is patterned after an actual native of Wisconsin? MIND BLOWN. And by "MIND BLOWN," I mean "Yeah...actually, I can totally see that..." Twitter: @KenSchultz_ @JohnEganComedy @Brewers

3 Strikes, You're Out #64: Umpire Dale Scott (Part 2)
26/02/2021 Duração: 42minOn last week's episode, I talked to former umpire Dale Scott about his inspiring coming out story. For Part 2, we're talking about his career on the field! An elimination playoff game. The go-ahead run scoring on an obscure rule without the ball being hit. Managerial arguments from both sides. Calls for a rule clarification. Two ejections. Four instances of fans throwing trash on the field. Three consecutive errors. Two bench clearing incidents. And an iconic home run that became one of the greatest moments in Blue Jays history. All of this took place in ONE INNING of Game 5 of the 2015 Blue Jays/Rangers ALDS--more commonly known as The Jose Bautista Bat Flip Game. And Dale Scott was there behind the plate for the whole thing. He takes us on the field through every moment as that seventh inning went more and more off the rails. The inside stories of Scott's interactions with both managers alone make this episode a must-listen! We also discuss catcher framing and it turns out Dale Scott is an umpire who hates

3 Strikes, You're Out #63: Umpire Dale Scott (Part 1)
19/02/2021 Duração: 55minThis episode marks the longest conversation I've ever had with an umpire without yelling "THAT'S NOT A STRIKE!" To be fair, every previous exchange I've had with an umpire consisted entirely of that phrase. With an occasional extra adjective or six. This week, I'm joined by retired MLB umpire Dale Scott who donned the gear from 1986 to 2017. For many years, I knew him mostly as "the guy who steps back when he calls a strike." Then in the offseason of 2014, Dale came out to the baseball public as gay. In the first episode of a two parter, he takes me through that process--what changed about his life, what didn't, and the effects he still feels today after leaving such a positive legacy on the sport. It's a phenomenal discussion and as you'll agree when you listen to his story, MLB is better because Dale Scott was a part of it.
